After the Novel "Black Like Me" was publised it became the best seller in 1961. Three years later in 1964, the book was turned into a movie. After the book came out, he lectured and wrote about race relations and social justice. Griffin recieved the Pacem in Terris Award for his work in contributing to the understanding of races. His family moved to Mexico for protection after Griffin's research came out. Later he returned to Fort Worth. Then in 1980 John Griffin died from diabettes.
